5 of the best coffee shops in Cape Town

I took the above photo at Shoon de Companje in Stellenbosch, which also makes amazing coffee by the way!

I'll be the first to admit that I am a coffee snob. I never used to be. As a youngster, I didn't know the difference between instant coffee and espresso.

My love for coffee started in Cape Town when I moved here a few years ago. Cape Town has a big coffee culture and you can find great coffee shops at every corner in the City Bowl.

Let me just say that Vida E Cafe is not one of them. They're like the McDonalds of the coffee world. You drink their coffee if you're at an airport or if there is nothing else around. But that's it.

Here's my list of the 5 coffee shops you have to visit in Cape Town:

1 - Deluxe Coffee

Deluxe Coffee is my favourite little spot. They have a number of shops in Cape Town. All of their shops are small and grundge with a bit of a rock and roll vibe.

These guys know how to make great coffee. I order the flat white as usual and I always get exactly what I want. The coffee is flavourful and strong. They supply a number of restaurants now as well. Think of these guys as the Godfather of coffee.

Deluxe Coffee Beans

These guys roast and grind their own beans. Pro Tip, buy your beans from them and get them to grind it for your taste, they grind according to what you need, I usually ask them to grind for a mokka pot.

Check them out here for more info.

2 - Jasons Bakery

Not only does Jasons have amazing bread, sandwiches, the BEST homemade pies (which changes every single day), but they also have some of the best fair trade coffee around.

Try and get there early for their famous bacon croissant and a flat white to go. This is my go to breakfast if I have time in the morning. Very very good!

The Coffee at Jasons

They only use one kind of coffee bean, but it's a goodie.

3 - Bean There

Bean There is awesome! They've been around for quite a while and they have a wide range of the best beans from around the world. They also offer coffee aprreciation courses, so give that a try.

4 - Truth Coffee

Truth Coffee is one of my favourite coffee spots to hang out. They have based their entire decor around the Steam Punk movement, and it's super cool! Think steam powered machines, vintage goggles and funky vests. They have a killer eggs benedict, but thats about it food wise.

Coffee from Truth

Truth Coffee roast their own beans so it's good, but not amazing like most people think. The price is a bit high for coffee, but the vibe is cool so it gets extra brownie points for that.

Definitely worth a visit!

5 - Origin Coffee

Origin is great. You can find them in Cape Quarter, but they also serve their coffee at various markets around Cape Town.

And that's my round up of the best coffee spots in Cape Town. Leave a comment below if you feel differently or if you think another coffee shop should make the list.
